Vibration increased? First, we find the cause

Vibration is a symptom, not a ready-made diagnosis. Balancing helps when the source is imbalance in the rotating part. Shaft misalignment, worn bearings, loose mounting, or resonance call for a different fix — which is why we start with a measurement.

  • Vibration or noise has increased at operating speed.
  • It got worse after repair, cleaning, or replacing a blade, impeller, or coupling.
  • Bearings run hot, make noise, or wear out faster than before.
  • Guards, platforms, or piping rattle, and you can feel it through the floor.
  • You need to confirm the condition with measurements before paying for costly repairs.

What to send before the visit

  1. Equipment type and purpose;
  2. Operating speed (RPM);
  3. When and how the vibration appeared;
  4. City/site, photos of the rotor and its supports;
  5. A short video of the equipment running.

This information lets us clarify the task, check whether on-site work is possible, and prepare an estimate.

What it costs

The price has two parts: vibration diagnostics with a report, €300 per unit — always payable, and balancing — only if the measurement confirms it's possible. Each additional unit in the same visit gets a 20% discount (30% from 10 units).
The first 20 km are included; beyond that, €0.60/km round trip.

If balancing isn't possible (for example, the bearings are worn out) — you pay only for diagnostics, the report, and travel:
Preliminary estimate. Minimum invoice per visit €500, minimum 4 hours on site; for work lasting more than a day, a per-diem of €140/day applies. All prices exclude VAT. An exact quote follows after photos of the machine.

What the price per rotor includes

This is the full scope of the visit, not just fitting the weight:

  1. Technician call-out to your site with measuring equipment.
  2. Initial inspection of the machine — mountings, supports, coupling, and access to the rotor and correction points.
  3. Vibration measurement and analysis at operating speed — level, speed, and phase.
  4. Assessing the cause. If it's imbalance, we balance the rotor. If the cause is something else (shaft misalignment, worn bearings, loose mounting, resonance), we identify it and provide an assessment of what needs to be fixed.
  5. Dynamic balancing in one or two planes: trial runs, calculation, and fitting of the correction weights.
  6. Final measurement and report with vibration readings before and after.

Fitting and welding work (attaching the weights)

The correction weights need to be attached — either bolted on or welded. This gives two options, and they affect the final price:

Done by the customer

We mark where each weight goes and what size it should be; your fitter or welder attaches it under our supervision. Included in the base price — usually the fastest option, since your people know their own equipment.

We do it, no welding

We attach the weights ourselves: bolted connections, standard mounting points, drilling. For sites without a fitter available. Cost: +€150 per rotor.

We do it, with welding

Welding the weights on is a critical operation: a second specialist, a welder, comes out with their own equipment, and the weld is inspected. Cost: +€400 per rotor.

Site requirements

For the visit to succeed in a single trip, we need a few things from you — small, but important. Here's what should be ready before we arrive.

⚙️ The machine is in working order

Balancing is only carried out on machines that are in good working order and properly secured in place: bearings in working condition, frame free of cracks, fasteners tight. If we find a fault during inspection, repairs are needed first. In that case, we carry out vibration diagnostics, identify the cause, and prepare a report — and charge only for diagnostics and travel, not for balancing.

🧹 The rotor is clean

Caked-on dust, dirt, and product buildup are themselves a source of imbalance: it sticks today, it flakes off tomorrow. The rotor needs to be cleaned before balancing — otherwise the result won't hold, and the money will be wasted. If cleaning isn't possible on site, we'll tell you honestly before starting the work.

👷 Someone responsible for start-up and shutdown

Balancing requires 3–6 start-ups of the machine. We need one of your staff who knows the equipment, operates the start-up and shutdown, and is responsible for job safety and work authorization. Our specialists do not operate your equipment themselves — this is a safety rule.

🔌 Mains power 220 V, 50 Hz

A standard 220 V outlet is needed near the machine to power the measuring instrument and laptop. An extension cord works too — what matters is stable power during the measurements.

🔧 Access to the machine

We need access to the bearing housings to mount the sensors, space for a reflective marker on the shaft, and access to the rotor to fit the weights — an open hatch, a removed cover, or a window in the casing. If access requires disassembly, we'll agree on that in advance.

Frequently asked questions

Can you balance a rotor without removing it?

Usually, yes. Balancing is performed in the machine's own bearings, provided there is safe access, the rotor runs stably, and conditions allow for several start-ups.

Does strong vibration always mean imbalance?

No. Shaft misalignment, worn bearings, loose mounting, resonance, or parts rubbing against each other can shake a machine just as much as imbalance. That's why we measure first and only add weight afterward.

How is the price calculated?

Two parts: vibration diagnostics with a report, €300 per unit (always payable) + balancing based on rotor size (S +€250, M +€450, L +€700, XL from +€1,200), one or two planes included. If balancing isn't possible — for example, the bearings are worn out — you pay only for diagnostics and travel, and receive a report stating the cause. Attaching the weights: your own staff — included; our fitting work without welding +€150, with welding +€400 per rotor. Travel: 20 km included, then €0.60/km round trip. Minimum invoice — €500, + VAT.

Yes. We're based in Vila Nova de Gaia, and we schedule visits across all of Portugal. Let us know where the machine is, and we'll sort out the travel.

What documents do you provide after the job?

A balancing report with vibration readings before and after, the mass and position of the correction weights, and, if needed, an assessment of the machine's condition.
